Childhood was so different when I was young. We could go outside to play without the worries of someone stealing us away, drugs or many of the scary things kids have to deal with today.
I grew up in a great neighborhood. The trees were tall, and grew together at the top into a shady canopy. Days were long, and filled with fun, and the worst things to worry about was the girl named Beth that lived next door, she could be mean sometimes. Heaven knows her little brother Jimmy was truly mean. Everyone watched out for Jimmy, even though he was younger than all of us.
One of my favorite memories is in this neighborhood. The funny thing is that it is an incorrect memory. Let me explain..... A bunch of us kids were hanging out playing in the street next to my Grandma's house. Oh yeah, did I mention we lived next door to my Grandma? I could have only been 4 or 5 at the time. As we were playing, a boy older than us came riding down the street on an elephant! Yeah, OK not really, but that is how I remember it. What actually happened is the boy came riding down the street on a horse, but being so small it seemed like an elephant to me and that is how I remember it every time to this day. I have to correct myself and tell myself it is a horse. Unless by some chance he worked for the circus or something and actually did ride an elephant down the street..............................yeah, I doubt it to.
